Class Descriptions
To find the best fit for you, please read through the studio description of classes below. If you have any questions related to any of these classes, please don't hesitate to contact me by email or phone via the contact page!
Private Vocal Instruction:
These 30 minute classes are each designed specifically to fulfill each student's needs. Each lesson begins with a thorough warm up followed with student work on a repertoire chosen specifically for their vocal level and proper vocal progression needs.
Studies show that private vocal instruction is best suited for students age 13 and older. This is due to the fact that physically the voice has not started to settle and truly develop until that age. Any type of manipulation to the voice before this time has been proven to increase the risk of vocal cord damage.
For students who are younger than 13, it is highly recommended that they join a choir or vocal group with a qualified instructor who will have the young vocalists start working on breath control, ear training, and music theory. These very important tools are easily developed at a young age and can set a great foundation for easy advancement when the voice is at a healthy age of training. I suggest the Ovation and Encore Performer classes if and when it is offered here at the studio.
Private Acting Instruction:
These 30 minute classes were designed for the advanced acting student. The classes are best suited for students preparing for auditions. Each lesson is specifically designed to further the advancement of each student, focusing on areas for improvement.
Private Acting Instruction should not be taken in place of, but along with, group acting classes. Actors learn and advance quicker in settings where they observe as well as participate. I recommend studio acting classes (please see details on Acting 101, Acting Fundamentals and Acting to Develop Style below).
Acting to Develop Style:
This class has been designed to aid the serious actor in discovering their way to developing a successful approach to portraying a character. The student will gather tools and develop a personal process that helps them best present a role. This class is for the advanced student.
Students must audition to participate.
(Class size: Minimum:6 Maximum:10)
Musicianship for Singers:
Many good singers fail to get accepted into college and/or go without work
because they did not take the time to become good musicians. It is not enough to
just sing well, you need to be a trained musician so that when a director asks
you at an audition to sing a song from the show which you have never heard it
before, you are able to tackle the song with confidence. If you do not develop your ear so that you can return simple and difficult musical phrases or hold a harmony on your own, you will not be competitive.
Musicianship for Singers class is a staple for all students that want to sing. It will give vocal students the opportunity to develop the extremely important musicianship tools needed to be a successful performer. If you struggle with sight reading music, holding vocal harmony, or counting you need to take this class!!!!!!!
These classes will be given on Saturday throughout the year and are recommended for all students who sing.
Some potential topics for discussion: note reading, rhythm and counting, ear training, and sight reading.
Recommended for ALL Students
(Class size: Minimum:6 Maximum:15)
Dates: TBA
Audition Assessment Workshops:
This Workshop was prepared to allow students the opportunity to test out their audition material as well as test their auditioning skills. Each student will perform their selections and then each selection will be assessed as to its preparation and effectiveness. This is a must for the student who plans to present anything at a college or for any audition.
Dates: TBA
Master Coaching Sessions:
These 30 minute private sessions were created specifically for alumni students of Mark Bzdick or for advanced performers who are in need of private coaching for specific events or are from out of town, or college students needing to "brush up" on a technique. These will be scheduled on an as needed basis, at the instructor’s approval and availability. These sessions are not available to new students.
