Thank you to everyone who was gracious enough to share in words your experience of working with me. I am humbled and so grateful. It has always been my goal to be able to repay the incredible instructors and directors that I have had the honor to work with, by passing on their inspiration to the next generation of performers.
Thank you again to those of you who took the time to write, and to those of you who took the time to read.

Mark Bzdick ~ You Need Him In Your Life
The day Mark Bzdick said that he would like to teach me was the day my life went in the direction that it was always meant to go. I was a very shy high school choir student when I first met Mark Bzdick. He was the piano accompanist in our high school choir. I had grown up singing in church and knew early in life that I wanted to do something in the music industry. I had heard that he was teaching voice to several of the students and I thought how nice that would be but I wasn’t sure how to approach him. Well, I didn’t have to wait long because after he heard me sing one day in class, he approached me and said that he would love to teach me too! He said that he heard something special in my voice and just knew that he could make it better. That was an understatement, because he completely overhauled my voice. Not just my singing but my speaking voice as well. I had friends that I hadn’t seen in a while tell me that my voice had noticeably changed! That was a good thing because I still had a bit of that West Virginia twang from a few years back. He also quite often included me in his musical productions because I desperately needed stage presence to go along with the voice. He saw something in me and he never gave up on me even when I wasn’t sure if I could do it. After my time with Mark I was blessed to start a career in radio. Thanks to the vocal work that I had done with Mark I now had the chops to be in radio! It was truly a dream come true. I have been in my dream career now for the past 25 years. Even though I started out doing overnights I am now the host of the Z95.1 Morning Show at WQMZ FM in Charlottesville, VA. I am also the only female morning show host in my town. I owe so much of my success to Mark Bzdick. If you need to hone your vocal skills or have a career in music or spoken word, Mark is your man. He will always hold a special place in my heart. I am so thankful to him.

Mr. & Mrs. John Musson
For the past year, our daughter has participated in private voice lessons, combined with stage performance techniques. Mr. Bzdick, while well recommended in our area, has a profuse resume which combines academic credentials with prominent performance experience. His students consist mainly of young adults, with diverse interests and experience.
Mr. Bzdick has created a learning and performance space, which facilitates one-on-one and group learning and performance. As parents, it is most obvious to see how the students quickly adopt the studio, and (comfortably emote) in their environment.
Mr. Bzdick is able to quickly diagnose vocal impediments, and prescribe appropriate music, methods, mnemonics to move the student to the next level, while also exploring and expanding multiple genres. While he demands individual commitment and practice, the students find it anything but a chore, and recognize the reward of effort, perseverance and discipline.
As is likely most other families, we have seen nothing but dedication and support from Mr. Bzdick and his Studio. Our daughter has gained a level of self-esteem and creativity which neither school nor other components of her life have been able to afford. We highly recommend and promote instruction from Mr. Bzdick and his Studio.

My daughter has worked with Mark for over 6 years and absolutely loves him! He is an incredibly talented voice and acting teacher who not only teaches his students how to perform, but also instills in them confidence, professionalism and kindness. Mark also goes the extra mile to ensure his students have just the right song or monologue and tirelessly works to prepare them for industry or college auditions. I highly recommend the Bzdick Studio of Performing Arts for those interested in voice/acting instruction!!

Ruby Kelly Germano
My name is Kelly Germano and I am the Performing Arts teacher for Summit Christian Academy in Yorktown, VA. Interest in the performing arts is starting to blossom at our school and I was looking for a way to develop our program and offer our students a more personalized and professional learning experience. I also wanted students who desired to pursue a career as a performer to receive sound professional advice to help them in that direction. One way I sought to do this was through workshops and coaching sessions with a successful performer and instructor. I first heard about Mark Bzdick through one of our Summit students who was taking lessons from him. I contacted Mark and we set up a meeting promptly. I was absolutely blown away from start to finish. His studio was beautiful, pristine and professional, yet welcoming. Mark was very detailed and thorough as we discussed my vision for my students, as he had prepared a packet of information and options for me to look over. My students were delighted to work with and learn from Mark. He made the most of every moment with my students in both group and individual settings. I learned so much just from observing him! I was taken back to my years studying in college, to a time when I was able to learn from educated and experienced professional performers- what an amazing opportunity for middle and high school students! Still, one of all of our favorite memories from working with Mark was watching and listening to him perform- what an inspiration! Mark was so supportive of our school and has a true passion to help others improve as singers and actors, as well as helping them develop their own respect and passion for the arts.

Mark is the best example of a professional artist I know. No one will see him in the movies or on a television commercial because his passion is in his studio ensuring the success of his students from grade school to senior citizen. I am that senior citizen who has been a student of Mark’s for the last two years and highly recommend him to help you develop your talents in voice, acting, piano and music theory. Because of his easy to comprehend instructions: I know how to sing correctly; I know how to play the piano and I understand the techniques of acting. My goal is to become a member of the Virginia Choral Society, play the piano for Sunday School Kids and use acting to work on my memory skills and maybe audition for a commercial.
When I enter Mark’s studio, it is always a place of relaxation and calm for learning and I truly look forward to my weekly lessons. You won’t be disappointed with his personality, his simplistic instructions and his desire for you to succeed. Take a class and you’ll look forward to being in his studio every week too.

When I signed my son up for voice lessons with Mark Bzdick, (referred by a friend of his), I had no idea what an impact it would have on my 16-year-old son’s life. He was truly inspired by Mark’s knowledge, talent and enthusiasm for musical theatre. Over the next 2-½ years, his lessons expanded to include various voice, acting and dance classes. His enthusiasm for musical theatre grew steadily and I was very much impressed with the noticeable improvement in not only his vocal/acting techniques but also in his maturity level and professionalism. Mark had become not only his vocal coach/instructor, but also a wonderful role model, mentor and friend. He showed a sincere interest in my son’s career aspirations, along with a genuine concern regarding his life and well-being. Mark was always willing to lend a listening ear and offer friendly advice when asked or when needed.
There is no doubt in my mind that as a result of his experience with Mark Bzdick, my son was able to stay focused on his career aspirations throughout his high school years (which in turn, kept him out of trouble)! While in high school, he participated in District & All-State chorus, high school & community college musicals/plays as well as community theatre. Mark coached and helped him prepare for most of these, along with several college auditions. My son just began his second year as a JMU Musical Theatre Major, after completing a successful freshman year in which he participated in several theatre productions.
I have no doubt that he will continue to be successful in all of his future endeavors.
It is without hesitation that I recommend Bzdick Studio for anyone interested in a career in musical theatre, theatre, vocal arts, as well as anyone looking to improve their talent and/or skills. I will be forever grateful for the inspiration that he has given to my son.

What an amazing opportunity for our area to have such a talented, kind, and experienced instructor for our aspiring singers and actors. Mark Bzdick has worked with my daughter for over 5 years to include lessons in voice, acting, and piano. He has given to our daughter invaluable advice regarding all aspects of professional acting -from writing a resume to guiding her on how to prepare for auditions. He has advanced her skills far beyond anything we could have ever imagined. His teaching and professional guidance will have given our daughter her best chance of achieving her dreams. Mark Bzdick is a very kind, sincere, thoughtful, and, supportive mentor to our daughter. He runs his studio professionally and on time and has always been flexible in scheduling our daughter for additional training when needed. I would enthusiastically recommend Mark Bzdick for all those seeking instruction in voice, acting, and piano.

In 2013, I had the magnificent pleasure of meeting Mark Bzdick. This was no mere meeting, this occurrence literally changed the trajectory of my life, and my career. I was working a dead-end job, and I longed to return to my true love; theatrical performance. I nervously shared my intention with Mark to return to acting and he was more than eager to assist me. Under his tutelage, I rediscovered my acting ability, and got over my intense stage fright. After a few weeks of classes, I made so much progress he determined I should tarry no longer; it was time to audition. I was nervous as can be, but using the knowledge that Mark had taught me the weeks prior I auditioned for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundations electronic field trip, The Freedom Quest of Oney Judge, and I booked the paid gig.
After that booking Mark, increased my work load, and he began teaching me advanced songs and monologues. Mark is truly gifted with an extraordinary musical mind, matched with an even more impressive ear. He can listen to your voice and trouble shoot any issues you may be unknowingly doing to obstruct your truest sound. Mark is patient, kind, and very hardworking.
Since my time at the Bzdick Studio of Performing Arts, I have booked countless acting jobs on various movie sets. My most successful accomplishment year to date is that I am a MFA candidate at the Savannah College of Art and Design, with anticipated graduation in 2018. Recently, I was selected to be one of twelve students out of 150, who auditioned to be a part of the Performing Artist Showcase 2018. Without Mark’s guidance, and instruction I would not have made the progress I am making. His influence is felt daily. I still audition with the monologues and songs he has helped me find. If I need any industry help, he is a wealth of knowledge and is more than willing to assist in any way possible. I highly recommend Mark, he is a gem.

Mark Bzdick of the Bzdick Studio of Performing Arts is a hidden gem. Conveniently located in Yorktown and right off I64, this is the place to be for aspiring actors and vocalists. I remember well our first visit with Mark. In addition to evaluating my son vocally, he asked what his goals were. A plan was laid out which included acting, voice, piano and music theory. The beauty of this studio is that Mark is able to tailor a plan based upon what you hope to achieve. If you are returning to voice lessons, simply want to improve your voice, or are training for the Great White Way he is a solid, steady instructor, and able to help one “find their voice”! The environment in group classes is very supportive as students learn to provide and accept critiquing of one another in a positive way. There are also customized workshops monthly to address specific topics, i.e. Sight reading, Audition Techniques just to name a few. We are in our third year of training with Mark and I have every confidence my son will be fully prepared when he begins his journey as a professional artist.

To any prospective vocal or acting student:
I have worked at the Bzdick Studio for little over a year and as such, I've seen firsthand what a wonderful place it is. Firstly, Mark Bzdick is a kind and extremely knowledgeable teacher. I can't tell you how many times I personally have benefited from his generosity and expertise. I have seen him spend countless hours helping students in various ways - like recording and editing audition tapes. Many students are unaware of how much effort Mark puts into finding them quality monologues and music. Not only that, but I have heard many students praise his ability to teach them diligence in such a difficult field as the arts. I too have experienced his help in vocals and acting. One day, out of the blue, my sister told me my singing sounded better, and this was after only a few lessons with him.
Since working with Mark, I have noticed that he gives great care to making sure students feel comfortable and welcome. If you're nervous about preforming at all, he will make sure to put you at ease. I highly recommend Mark and his studio to anyone looking to improve their acting or vocal skills. You won't regret it.

The minute I left your studio Thursday, it dawned on me how quickly 2 years had passed, yet how in 2 years I changed so much not only from experience but from your guidance and authentically unadulterated advice.
I know you know you're an amazing teacher, but you never show it because you always know there's "someone out there who's better" and you challenge yourself and strive to get there. That's probably the most admirable quality in a teacher: never settling, always reaching, yet refusing to stop teaching.
Not only are you brutally honest and a perfect critic, but you lend a shoulder to cry on or someone to rant to about the difficulties of show biz. As much as you know it's tough out there, you don't tell us "oh __% of people make it, good luck out there kids you'll never see the end of the tunnel," you see the talent in EVERY SINGLE person and refuse to give up until you've convinced or politely forced it out of your students.
I know I have many more years ahead of me and many more hard lessons to learn about sacrifice and performance, but I just wanted you to know that I learned more from you in 2 years than I've learned from any other director, choir director, voice teacher, in my entire lifetime.
I just want you to know that you have made a huge difference in my future and I won't let your name be forgotten (yes, I will give you credit if I ever win any awards :)

I studied with mark for 5 years until graduating High School. His coaching gave me a foundation that most of my peers had not found before college. His students are top of their class in district and all-state choir, lead their high school or community theatre productions, and gain a wealth of knowledge that affirms their place at any production table. He has a way of unlocking potential and motivation in young artists already teeming with talent. He is an invaluable resource, and one of the best teachers I've had. If you're serious, or wanting to be serious, about a career as a performing artist, Mark Bzdick is the man to call.

I was so lucky to have Mark Bzdick as a voice and acting teacher in high school. A good teacher is hard to find, and Mark's patience, active listening, individual attention, and wealth of knowledgeable technique enabled me to build a strong foundation for both the skill of merging acting with singing, and the skill of effectively auditioning. I went on to double major successfully in Vocal Performance and Acting, and now enjoy a healthy performing career in Washington D.C. I have Mark to thank for giving me the foundational tools that enabled me to build my craft. He helped me see and believe in my own potential, and is one of the best teachers I ever had.

Delaney Vest,
CNU English/Theater Major and prospective drama teacher
William Ward once said: "the mediocre teacher tells, the good teacher explains, the superior teacher demonstrates, and the great teacher inspires." Mr. Mark Bzdick is truly a great teacher. If you are exploring a passion for theater or voice he will take you to the next level. Mr. Bzdick is imminently qualified and from the first note, exercise, or drill you will know you are learning from a master. Mr. Bzdick tells, he explains, and, he demonstrates. Most importantly, though, he inspires. He is the rarest of teachers who has become my mentor and my friend. As his student, he gave me the skills and confidence I needed to perform in college theater as a freshman and he inspired me to pursue my dream of becoming a high school drama teacher. I don't think I can pay my teacher, mentor, and friend a greater compliment than by learning from him and continuing his legacy of inspiring students. You're the greatest Mr. Mark!

Mark!

Hello Mark,
My name is Heather Lehman and I took voice lessons with you at B&B Music in Dover DE. I still live in Delaware and every time I drive by B&B Music I think of you. I wanted to let you know how big an impact you had on my life. I became Miss Delaware in 2009 and sang opera for my talent. I just wanted to say thank you for all you did to help me. I hope you are doing well.

From Celeste Kellogg Post So... I just want to introduce you all to one of the main reasons I am where I am today. My voice coach Directors Mark! When I was 14 I took my first lesson from him and ended up taking lessons from him for the next 6 years (and need I still need to go back and visit him for a voice check up)! There are a lot of vocal teachers out there that try to mold you into a certain artist and performer... Mark never did that with me.... He took what I had and developed it to go in the direction I wanted to go with music. One thing he does that all us artists need is focus on our weaknesses and turn them into strengths. I can't thank Mark enough for making my voice what it is today! If you live in the Hampton Roads VA area, Mark is the one to see for your voice! By the way... He has an AWESOME voice! Thank you Mark for everything! Love you! September 2015
Hey Mark! I wanted to send you an email letting you know that I have been cast as Mrs. Hudson in Fahrenheit 451 at the Governor's School. I actually performed the infamous Dot monologue and the monologue from Grey Gardens at my audition! So, needless to say, I could not have done it without you. I severely appreciate all of the faith you have had in me over all of these years, it's finally paying off! Thank you so much for what you have done for me and I hope to see you at one of the shows. Love, Amelia Delphos

I was a voice student of yours in Charlottesville Virginia when I was a high school student in the mid-90s - long story short, I was just reminiscing with a friend about The Fantasticks and thought, "I wonder what Mark Bzdick is up to! He taught me all these songs!" I think of you often and remember my lessons so fondly. I'm still a performer, in Chicago right now. I mostly do improv and comedy, but I've also been singing in little bands for the past few years and I try to incorporate music into my other performances whenever I can. I just wanted to say that you had a great influence on my early confidence and interest in performing and I'm really grateful for that! I hope you are well. I'd love to hear how you are doing! All best,Erin Thorn |

Mark,
You were SO very good for me when I needed it the most - early in my singing
career - those early lessons helped form the foundation of my singing. I
remember you telling my parents after my first vocal lesson that I needed ALL
kinds of help, You
didn't mince words and you told us the truth - they and I are very grateful for
that. I am SO happy to tell the world that you were my primary vocal coach for
many years, and that your guidance on all aspects of performance helped mold me
into what I have become! And current and future students of Mark Bzdick: You
are getting far more national-quality value by studying with Mark than with ANY
other vocal/performance coach or studio in Hampton Roads. If you want to "make
it", there is no better way than to be associated with Mark Bzdick! Thank you,
Mark. I was truly blessed to have spent time with
you.

Mark Bzdick has been Celeste Kellogg's vocal coach for the past five
years. There is no doubt that Mark was and is instrumental in developing
Celeste into the singer she is today. Mark has the ability of taking a
singers weakness and making it their strength while capitalizing on their
strengths at the same time. He has definitely prepared her for her career
as an Actress, Songwriter & Nashville Recording Artist...

It is with great enthusiasm that I write this letter for Mark Bzdick. He is a tremendous talent and teacher. He displays a true desire to work with young singers. His approach of “working with” a student rather than ‘instructing and drilling’ creates a natural atmosphere of learning.
Our son Noah began with Mark in the summer 2009. His first experience was a SAW II, Singing Actor Workshop, class. He immediately took to the class and Mark. Since Noah’s true passion is singing, we enrolled him in private lessons.
Noah had experience singing in a choral situation. Most of his focus had been creating a darker sound that would blend with the chorus. Mark was able to draw Noah outside of his comfort zone and help him bring his voice forward to create a new brighter confident solo voice. Noah now understands the difference between the two styles, and is able to control which way he directs the tonal properties of his voice for a specific piece.
I am thrilled with the development and growth in Noah’s singing. I have and will continue to recommend Mark as a voice instructor to parents and students.

Mark Bzdick is not only a true professional performer but he is a professional teacher as well.
Any student of Mark’s is treated with respect and equality. As he sees each student’s individual strengths and weaknesses, he is able to cultivate their true talent within. All Mark asks of his students is the same respect and consideration in return and….a good work ethic. No one ever made it to Carnegie Hall without practice!
I have had the privilege to assist Mark with a few projects over the years and my time spent working with him was always a pleasure. His enthusiasm for his students is what distinguishes him from others. Mark instills a work ethic into his students that if you work hard, if you practice, you will succeed.
All of Mark’s students truly enjoy working with him and it is amazing to see the transformations that they undertake under Marks’ teaching. It is true what they say “you get what you give” and all of Mark’s students have grown under his direction to become professional young performers.
If you have a child that wants to sing, dance, and act on stage or if you are the adult who always wanted to give it try but never had the chance, or maybe you have had the chance and would do anything to give it another try…Mark Bzdick is the teacher for you.
Not everyone was meant to be a star; but Mark was and is, a star performer and a star teacher!

Mark Bzdick is an amazing instructor. He tailors his training method to each individual finding their strengths and weaknesses, and helping them to become a better performer. Not only have I learned to sing well, but I have learned how to perform a piece. In the Singing Actor class he teaches, I learned how to bring emotion into a piece, and how to perform with confidence and skill. I highly recommend Mark as an instructor. He has years of experience in performing and teaching and is a great asset to our community!

These traits, combined with his extensive theatre experience, have provided our children with an exceptional education in vocal and acting studies. Mark's passion for teaching is evident in his classes which are consistently well planned and challenging.

You really made us look good, Mark. Thank you so much! It was a really rewarding experience for me, Rafael, Natalie, and the rest of the folks.
I've never, in 24 years of professional experience, seen anyone get a standing-O after the first tune!! WOW! And I've performed with New York Met opera stars, B'way stars, country stars, etc. What a treat that was for me to see!
You are an exceptionally fine musician with a beautiful voice and the ability to bring music alive with your emotion. It is a learning experience for us all to see people do that. It was really satisfying.

I am not sure you remember me, but I am one of your former voice students from Charlottesville , VA. I am one
of those altos your referred to perhaps In your voice studio bio!
I currently just finished my 18 th year teaching elementary music! Can you believe it?? I can not! I absolutely love my job. I was singing with the Chamber Chorale of Fredericksburg but currently took a break as my life extremely busy.
Enough about me for now. I just wanted to let you know that you definitely made an impact on me ...I was a voice
major:) I still sing alto but I am a true mezzo! Thanks for sharing your love of music with me and encouraging me back in my teens! Thanks.

When I first began taking lessons with Mark I lacked confidence and never imagined that I would ever be good enough to sing and perform on stage. Within the first year I was singing in recitals and quickly grew to discover that “I was hooked on Mark and The Performing Arts”. Since then I have gained back stage experience and set design in Mark’s production of Children of Eden. Last year I debuted in my first public appearance.
Mark is an extraordinary instructor, he is dedicated & loves teaching, he will inspire and challenge you.
You will laugh and have fun with him, you will find yourself wanting to work hard for him and in return he will exceed all of your expectations. What a bargain! You will be amazed.
Congratulations to you Mark. I can’t wait to get started working on my acting skills and learning all
my wonderful new songs!

Passion
Meets Professionalism: 'Godspell' To Take Center Stage
By TRACI-DALE CRAWFORD, Special to the Daily Press
Passion. Professionalism.
Community.
These words exemplify what Mark Bzdick wants to see in his
students.
Bzdick (pronounced biz-dik), a professional actor and musician,
recently moved to the Yorktown area to be closer to family. He seems to have
found an extended one in the cast of "Godspell," which he is directing this
weekend on behalf of Center Stage Academy.
"I wanted to be able to cast a company of kids who were talented
and willing to work hard enough to bring the show to the level that I know
today's young people are capable of," he said. "I was lucky enough to find
them."
After public auditions in late May, roles were promptly assigned
and the work began. When the play opens tonight, the cast members will have
spent well over 100 hours each preparing.
Center Stage has never put on a production that has demanded
this much dedication from the cast, but the organization was willing to give it
a shot with Bzdick in charge. His talents range as far as his experience in
performing and directing -- from Florida to New
York.
He's worked with Broadway actors, performed with Beijing opera
stars and composed original recorded works. He knows his calling is in the
performing arts and was dubbed the Mr. Holland of the Shenandoah Valley because
of his ability to inspire and share his love of music with his
pupils.
His enthusiasm and drive are not lost on the cast of "Godspell."
The cast of 19 has worked together tirelessly six days a week, often six hours a
day, to bring this production to life.
Bethany Dawson has participated in nine productions with Center
Stage. "This is by far the most professional of them all," she said. "I have
learned so much in each production, but working with Mark has allowed me to feel
that we are actually putting a show together in the way that a real Broadway
show would be done.
"He allows each of us to have our own input into the character
that we are portraying, which gives us a sense of responsibility and causes us
to think more deeply about the show. Mark treats us like professionals and is
very strict, but he also is very fun to work with, which creates a deep bond
with the rest of the cast."
Xavier Owens worked professionally in theater and film when he
was younger and living in New York.
The 18-year-old, who plays Judas, said, "Being from New York,
I've worked with a lot of acting instructors. Mark Bzdick is by far one of the
best directors/coaches I have ever had the honor of working with. I truly
believe that being a part of this show with these people and this director has
allowed me to reach a greater level in my
abilities."Owens hopes to go back to paid work in the performing arts,
partly because of this experience.
Josh Knepper, the 17-year-old cast in the role of Jesus, hopes
to have his own career in theater and film. Agreeing, he said of Bzdick, "He is
the most talented person I have ever met. I look up to him a lot. Mark has
taught me so much that I can use not only in theater but in
life."
Bzdick admires this young cast, most of whom he'd never met
before.
"They're very talented. They all have strengths that complement
each other. They've got a very strong desire to achieve and are happily going
along with an incredibly demanding schedule.
"This cast has worked so hard. They've been training tirelessly
in voice, acting, and dance, but what I'm most proud of is the work that they've
been doing in their hearts because that's what counts in the long
run."
Byron Wigfall, a junior in Woodside High School's theater magnet
program, said, "Working with Mark has really opened my eyes to how focused an
actor must be to really get into a show. I've learned a ton from him, a lot of
what he'd call 'expensive stuff,' but I've also been enlightened to what I need
to do to really be serious about acting and
theater."
When asked why he never went to Broadway with such a strong look
and sound of his own, Bzdick smiles and relates a story about being invited to
audition for the Broadway role of Javert in "Les Miserables."
"Wherever I've lived and performed, I've always felt like I was
where I was supposed to be at the time. I'm not doing this to become famous. I
just love doing it."
His passionate students love that he's doing it, too, and all
hope that he'll stay around here for a while.
